Catalogue scriptures: a glance at foreign experiences

Abstract

Since the early Eighties, when the large collective North-American catalogues started to insert bibliographical records in non-Latin alphabets, cataloguing of material in languages that use other scriptures has posed a number of problems that are still far from being solved. Without any claims to being exhaustive, the article reviews some foreign catalogues and the ways in which the various scriptures are managed and made to live and work together.
